Project type
Team project
Poland’s first mentoring platform for patients with chronic illnesses enabling them to connect, share experiences, challenges and difficult emotions.

"Pacjenci Pacjentom" translates to "Patients for Patients". The name conveys the app’s core idea: by connecting with others who share similar health experiences users can find understanding, emotional support and practical guidance.
Project Overview
What is Pacjenci Pacjentom? The app was created and continues to be developed by volunteers at the People and Medicine Foundation, where I contribute as a member of the UX/UI team. I joined the project after the product had already launched and I'm currently working on its rebranding and designing new sections.

Project idea
To create an anonymous space where patients, as well as their loved ones and parents of children living with illnesses, can connect with others who share similar experiences, talk without fear of judgment or stigma, learn how others cope with similar challenges, find understanding and support, and offer the same to others.
To provide a knowledge base with practical resources and interactive tools, where patients can learn how to prepare for medical appointments, understand their rights and assess the credibility of medical information.

My role
Volunteer, UX/UI Designer, Team member

Responsibilities
Rebranding existing app screens
Designing high-fidelity interfaces
Creating interactive prototypes and interface animations
Using and contributing to the design system
Cooperating with team members and other volunteers
Participating in Foundation's design reviews
Rebranding
Brand evolution. As part of the ongoing work, I am redesigning existing app screens by applying the rebranding guidelines. I am also analyzing existing user flows and introducing improvements to make the experience smoother and more intuitive.

Pain points
The biggest challenge seems to be the color scheme of the app. The difficult lime color, chosen as the primary color, in most cases does not meet accessibility requirements and is not user-friendly for those who may have vision problems.
The necessity of implementing WCAG guidelines. Users themselves have also provided feedback regarding the font sizes and readability issues.

Rebranding guidelines
UI audit results highlighting key areas for interface improvement.
A new design system including updated brand colors, typography and accessibility requirements.
UX writing guidelines defining the tone of voice and principles for interface copy.

Registration & Login
First steps. I began by redesigning the user's initial journey through the app, starting with the welcome screen. From there, I improved the account creation and verification flows, all related user journeys and defining the user's role within the app.

My contribution
Redesigned the UI of all screens from scratch.
Added username and password creation guidelines along with helpful placeholders.
Improved the account verification flow.
Simplified the email change form.
Introduced validation states and toast messages to provide clear guidance throughout the user flow.
Updated the app logo and visual assets.
Created animations guiding users through the simplified Terms of Use.
Refined the interface copy to improve clarity and usability.

Onboarding
Getting to know the user. I guided users through the profile personalization process, where they can introduce themselves, share the health conditions they are living with and specify their needs and expectations within the app.

My contribution
Redesigned the UI of all screens from scratch.
Refreshed the available user icons.
Updated the list of languages users can communicate in with others.
Optimized the onboarding flow by removing the interest selection step.
Simplified the process of selecting users' needs by reducing the number of available options.
Added a profile card preview as the final step of the flow.
Refined the interface copy to improve clarity and usability.

Account
Creating a more personal experience. I joined the ongoing redesign of this section and ensured its consistency with the rest of the app. I designed missing screens and tabs to give users more control over their preferences and settings, enabling a more personalized journey.

My contribution
Joined the redesign of the Account section during the ongoing rebranding process.
Aligned the UI and interface copy with the newly redesigned sections to ensure consistency across the app.
Added the ability for users to select the languages they can communicate in with others.
Created missing screens to complete the account settings editing flow.
Introduced validation states and toast messages to provide clear guidance throughout the user flow.
Designed screens for the Saved, Notification Settings, and Blocked Profiles sections.

Chat
A safe space to talk. As I contributed to the ongoing redesign of this section, I worked to ensure a visual and interaction consistency across the app. I completed the experience by adding the missing screens and finished user flows to provide users with all the functionality they needed while creating a safe space for one-to-one conversations.

My contribution
Joined the redesign of the Chat section during the ongoing rebranding process.
Aligned the UI and interface copy with the newly redesigned sections to ensure consistency across the app.
Created missing screens to complete the user search and filtering flow.

Project Learnings
What did I learn from working on this project? This project gave me the opportunity to experience every stage of the design process step by step. It allowed me to explore each phase in depth and understand how the decisions and insights gained at one stage influence the next, ultimately shaping the final product.

Takeways
Things I learned
Value of teamwork. I strengthened my collaboration skills through shared analysis, collective decision-making, and giving and receiving constructive feedback.
Project pitching. I improved my presentation skills and gained confidence in communicating and defending my design decisions.
Figma. I developed my Figma skills by designing high-fidelity interfaces and building a design system from scratch.
Reflections
Delivering value. I learned that valuable products are created by solving real user problems rather than relying on assumptions.
Thinking outside the box. I came to understand that meaningful research insights and well-drawn conclusions are the foundation of effective design decisions.
Differents points of view. I discovered how differently users can perceive the same product, reinforcing the importance of validating assumptions through user testing.
Looking back, I would…
Iterations make it better. Conduct another round of usability testing to ensure the changes made the app more intuitive and easier to use.
Play and esperimentation matter. Experiment with the information architecture to explore alternative ways of presenting the administration and issue reporting section.
